Online Technology Splash - Will alter-ego robots revitalize online conferences?

A panel discussion, "Online Technology Splash - Will alter-ego robots revitalize online conferences?" (session partner: Oly Research Institute, Inc.) will be held within the 10th Annual Conference of the Association for Transdisciplinary Research hosted by LIVANES (March 5-6, 2021 (Friday and Saturday)).

In response to the spread of new coronavirus infections, more and more academic societies, which are places for promoting research activities, are adopting an online format. However, while the convenience of participating at any time and from anywhere is a plus, there are still issues to be addressed in terms of communication. This is especially true for poster presentations, where discussion is crucial. In fact, some people say, "It is difficult to drop by and meet new people," "It is difficult to understand each other's interests," and "It is difficult to create a network that will lead to the next meeting. In the future, as lifestyles change, new ways of presenting at academic conferences will become an important theme for researchers. What elements are necessary to promote highly active communication that leads to subsequent collaboration, even online? In order to verify this, we will conduct a demonstration experiment of online poster presentation using OriHime, an alter ego robot developed by Orii Research Institute, Inc. that conveys a sense of presence. In this session, online poster presenters participating in the demonstration experiment will make a 90-second pitch, creating an opportunity to develop into a more in-depth discussion in the subsequent poster presentation.

We will have a program of discussions among researchers, start-ups, and large companies from a variety of perspectives, not limited to the themes of this session.
We are now accepting applications for audience participation. Please visit the conference website (see below).

*The event will be held after taking measures against new coronavirus infection on the day of the event. For more information

Mr. Oriy Yoshifuji

After studying artificial intelligence at a technical college, he entered the School of Creative Science and Engineering at Waseda University. Based on his own experience of not attending school, he developed "OriHime," an alter ego communication robot for use against loneliness. He established OriHime Research Institute Inc. in order to make it available to many people. He has been developing the robot under the philosophy of "eliminating loneliness of human beings through communication technology".
