Innovation has long been split into 2 categories: serendipitous and designed. Some of humanity’s greatest achievements in science and technology were the result of fortuitous coincidences between people and concept. However, can we actively accelerate serendipitous innovation? Leave a Nest strives to create the environment where interdisciplinary research clashes and intermingles, creating the highest possible chances of serendipitous innovation. This conference takes a greater look at the different circumstances behind designed and serendipitous innovation to envision the best environment for innovation.
If you wish to present your research, please register here. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of requests, we will select from those who wish to participate and only some will be accepted.

Entrepreneurship Academy (NTUpreneur). She teaches various entrepreneurship programs focusing on sustainability and circular economy, empowering students with mindset, knowledge, and skills.
She has over 25 years of global business development experience supporting research commercialization, impact, and nurturing start-ups. She is a resource person and technical consultant for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP). She specializes in business development and education in emerging technologies, circular economy, and sustainability.

John Cheng is the 3rd generation family business owner of Cheng Yew Heng Candy Factory, a 77-year-old established sugar manufacturing company in Singapore. In 2008, he founded Innovate 360, a food innovation hub and Singapore’s first food incubator with facilities. Innovate 360 is recognized as a food technology partner in food security by APEC and also the Singapore Government. It is an Accredited Mentor Partner helping startups scale and go to market. John is also Chairperson of Feed 9 Billion, which co-launched the Good Food Startup Manual: Singapore Edition. He is entrepreneurship head of SMF’s Youth Committee, and EXCO of SCCI’s Youth Business Affairs Committee.

Ryuta Takeda received Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, and trained as a pure scientist in a biotech field. After joining Leave a Nest, he initiated the ASEAN largest Deeptech entrepreneur platform “TECH PLANTER” in Japan, and managed to spread it to 10 countries to explore Deep Tech to match Deep Issues. In USA, from 2016-2019, he held TECH PLANTER in Silicon Valley and Boston. As well as managing international teams and businesses in Leave a Nest, he also developed a lot of international PoCs and collaborative researches between MNC and startup and different startups, so called international co-creation activities.

The Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) launched its Innovation Centre in Singapore in 2009 to support faculty and researchers in advancing cutting-edge technologies. The SMART Innovation Centre is dedicated to accelerating innovation and entrepreneurship by nurturing high-potential deep-tech ventures. It plays a pivotal role in Singapore’s innovation ecosystem, providing grants, financial support, and specialized training to drive the refinement and commercialization of breakthrough technologies. The Centre cultivates promising innovations across Singapore’s R&D landscape, with a focus on emerging fields such as biotechnology, biomedical devices, information technology, advanced materials, nanotechnology, and energy solutions.

Research Splash: Singapore Research Showcase
Research Splash is a forum for researchers to pitch to the attendees in a 120-second format what they want to do and what they expect from the participants. The aim is to find a passionate presenter while soaking up the knowledge and enthusiasm of the researchers who appear one after another, and to use their pitches as a hint to come up with new ideas. The Research Splash presenters will get the opportunity to bring A0 Poster to display. After the research splash, the discussion will be developed further in poster presentations, with the aim of leading to the creation of new collaborative research.Calling for Research Splash and Poster Presenters in Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Singapore in November 2024!
