What is the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference?

In 2002, Liberace came up with the concept of "hyperdisciplinarity" to bridge the gap between the exponential increase in the number of scientific publications in recent years and the ever-increasing rate of knowledge available to us. Since then, we have been working as science bridge communicators to bridge science into knowledge that society can use, bringing together scientists, engineers, businesspeople, factory workers, doctors, farmers, educators, and other specialists in a variety of different fields. We believe that this "hyper-disciplinarity" network should be the key to exponentially increasing human knowledge. The Hyperdisciplinarity Conference is a place to test this hypothesis and take a new step forward.

About the Kochi Forum 2022 of the Association of Hyperdifferent Fields

Surrounded by a long coastline facing the Pacific Ocean and the ridges of the Shikoku Mountains, Kochi Prefecture has developed unique industries such as agriculture and fishing that take advantage of its geographical location, paper manufacturing related to its rich water resources, and mining and forestry that utilize the resources of the earth. At the same time, there is a global trend toward sustainable business practices such as circular economy, carbon neutrality, green economy, and ESG investment, and all regions, not just Kochi Prefecture, are required to take such initiatives. This forum aims to create new businesses through problem solving and value creation by combining the technologies and knowledge of companies, start-ups, and researchers in and outside of Kochi Prefecture in the context of these global trends.

Taking on the Challenge of Agribusiness for the Next Generation
〜Fertilizer, feed, and food production using unused resources

Session Partners: Eco Design Institute, Inc. / Focus Systems, Inc.

While the social system of mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal has resulted in a worsening environmental burden on a global scale, challenges to build a sustainable, recycling-oriented society have begun one after another, including a shift to renewable energy, environmentally friendly agriculture, forestry, and fishery industries, and reduction of food loss. In addition, sustainable businesses are expected to be established in local communities in order to shift from an urban-intensive to a decentralized society. This session will bring together companies from outside the prefecture that have been engaged in recycling-oriented businesses for the past 20 years, start-ups that promote the use of unused resources using insects, and second-stage companies that are taking on the challenge of researching and developing feed and organic fertilizers that are less harmful to the environment and animals, to discuss the agribusiness that Kochi is creating for the next generation. The event will be held to discuss agribusiness in Kochi for the next generation, and to bring together people who will work together to create the future.
