He has played a significant role in shaping Malaysia’s carbon market architecture, including contributions in the development of the REDD Plus Finance Framework as well as through his memberships in Technical Working Groups for development of national policies and legislation within the carbon market space. He has also acted as a member of Malaysia’s delegation to UNFCCC Conference of Parties, focusing on Article 6 development and Implementation.

    Ts. Dr. Yu Kai Ling is a researcher at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University. She holds a PhD from Universiti Malaya and a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Hons) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her research focuses on biomass waste valorisation, including microalgae-based systems, bioenergy production such as biochar, bioethanol, and biogas, thermochemical conversion and wastewater treatment, with emphasis on SDGs 6, 7, 12, and 13. As a Professional Technologist in Green Technology, Dr. Yu has published extensively in high-impact journals and currently serves on the Early Career Editorial Board of Chemical Engineering Journal. She has been involved in multiple research projects related to microalgae green technologies, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing environmental and energy sustainability.

    Ts. Hassan Bin Ismaila is a Consultant at SIRIM with over 29 years of experience in environmental and renewable energy technologies. His expertise covers wastewater treatment, resource recovery and industrial sustainability projects. Over the years, he has been involved in the development, assessment and verification of numerous environmental technology initiatives, including large-scale biogas and biomethane projects. He also has research experience in freshwater microalgae cultivation, focusing on improving the biomass yield of Choricystis coccoides. He brings a practitioner’s perspective to the discussion on whether algae can become a meaningful and credible contributor to the evolving carbon market ecosystem.
