Ts. Dr. Yu Kai Ling is a researcher at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University. She holds a PhD from Universiti Malaya and a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Hons) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her research focuses on biomass waste valorisation, including microalgae-based systems, bioenergy production such as biochar, bioethanol, and biogas, thermochemical conversion and wastewater treatment, with emphasis on SDGs 6, 7, 12, and 13. As a Professional Technologist in Green Technology, Dr. Yu has published extensively in high-impact journals and currently serves on the Early Career Editorial Board of Chemical Engineering Journal. She has been involved in multiple research projects related to microalgae green technologies, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing environmental and energy sustainability.

Ts. Hassan Bin Ismaila is a Consultant at SIRIM with over 29 years of experience in environmental and renewable energy technologies. His expertise covers wastewater treatment, resource recovery and industrial sustainability projects. Over the years, he has been involved in the development, assessment and verification of numerous environmental technology initiatives, including large-scale biogas and biomethane projects. He also has research experience in freshwater microalgae cultivation, focusing on improving the biomass yield of Choricystis coccoides. He brings a practitioner’s perspective to the discussion on whether algae can become a meaningful and credible contributor to the evolving carbon market ecosystem.

Mr. Muril Raman Armugam is the General Manager of NCS Group, overseeing the Group’s plantation, palm oil mill and property operations.
He has more than 25 years of experience in the oil palm plantation industry & Agribusiness. Before joining NCS Group, he served as Regional Chief Executive Officer of FGV Plantations, overseeing the company’s plantation operations across Sabah and Sarawak.
Prior to FGV Plantations, he spent eight years with Wilmar International Plantation in Indonesia and 14 years with Sime Darby Plantation. His extensive experience covers plantation and mill operations, property management, strategic planning, budgeting, profit and loss management, replanting, operational improvement, sustainability, governance, and Environmental, Health and Safety compliance.
Throughout his career, he has led large multidisciplinary teams and implemented initiatives to improve crop productivity, mill efficiency, cost competitiveness, resource utilisation and sustainable business practices. His professional interests include business transformation, agricultural innovation, digitalisation, operational excellence and sustainable development within the plantation and palm oil industry.
