Future Health Tech Businesses Tackling Humanity's Common Challenges

A panel discussion, "Future Health Tech Businesses to Tackle Humanity's Common Challenges" (session partner: SOMPO Holdings, Inc.), will be held during the 10th Annual Conference of the Association of Hyperdifferent Fields, hosted by LIVERNESS (March 5-6, 2021 (Friday and Saturday)).

Japan has long been called an aging society, and startups in the fields of health promotion, disease prevention, and nursing care are springing up one after another. Many entrepreneurs aiming to commercialize their businesses in the healthcare field are motivated by a deep awareness of the challenges they face and are engaged in daily research and development to solve the problems and difficulties that everyone will experience at least once in his or her life. Living a rich life, both physically and mentally, is a proposition common to all humankind, and more and more countries are likely to follow Japan's lead in the future. Nevertheless, the distance until technology is implemented in society is relatively long, and it is not easy to develop it into a sustainable business. In this session, we will hear from Mr. Ui of aba, which develops robots to support caregivers; Mr. Takahashi of The Harmony, which develops communication robots to improve dementia; Mr. Kobayashi of Neurospace, which contributes to human health through sleep technology; and Mr. Mitani of Ricoh, which is working to eliminate frailty in the elderly as a new in-house business. Mr. Kobayashi of NeuroSpace, which contributes to human health through sleep technology, and Mr. Mitani of Ricoh, which is working to eliminate frailty in the elderly as a new in-house business, will discuss the future of health tech business.

We will have a program of discussions among researchers, start-ups, and large companies from a variety of perspectives, not limited to the themes of this session.
We are now accepting applications for audience participation. Please visit the conference website (see below).

*The event will be held after taking measures against new coronavirus infection on the day of the event. For more information

The Harmony Co.
Founder & CEO
Kazuya Takahashi

After graduating from high school, he moved to Tokyo to become a fashion designer and started working for a major company in the industry. He then went to Italy on his own. After returning to Japan, he worked at a factory while living at home to save money to start his own business. While living with his parents, he strongly felt the need to update the nursing care system. With the mission of "making everyone involved in nursing care happy and realizing a society free from dementia," he is working to realize this mission through realism and technology.
In real life, he operates dementia care facilities and daycare centers in Iizuka, Tagawa, and Kama City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and in technology, he develops communication robots for dementia patients.

He started working for Ricoh Company, Ltd. in 2016. Since then, she has been engaged in research and development of healthcare business. When I saw my grandparents, who had been my emotional support since I can remember, spending depressing days with limited things they could do in their later years, I felt that I did not want these people to end up like this. Currently, she is participating in Ricoh's in-house new business creation program and developing a new service to assist the elderly in maintaining their walking ability, with the aim of "creating a society where the elderly can live dreaming of tomorrow.

aba Corporation
Representative Director
Yoshimi Ui

In 2011, while a student at the Chiba Institute of Technology, he founded aba Inc. and became its president. When he was in junior high school, his grandmother developed depression and he became a caregiver. The desire to reduce the burden on caregivers led him to the development of robots to support caregivers. After witnessing the horrific conditions at a special care home for the elderly where caregivers were forced to help patients to eliminate their waste, he decided to commercialize "Helppad," an elimination sensor that uses an odor sensor to detect the presence of waste.
