Environmental strategies to generate fusion research

A panel discussion, "Environmental Strategies to Generate Fusion Research," will be held within the 9th Annual Conference of the Association for Transdisciplinary Research, March 6-7, 2020 (Friday and Saturday), hosted by LIVERNESS.

The 9th Main Conference of the Association of Hyperdifferent Fields WEB:https://hic.lne.st/conference/hic2020/

In recent years, there have been calls for the promotion of interdisciplinary research and fusion of different fields. However, the more the fusion of fields is promoted and research is dynamically developed in a cross-disciplinary manner, the greater the invisible barriers that exist between fields and research organizations. Although many researchers are trying to break down these barriers and actively pursue interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research, there are not many successful examples. In this session, we will discuss how interdisciplinary research between biology and chemistry is created and promoted at the Nagoya University Institute for Transformative Biomolecular Research (WPI-ITbM), now in its sixth year of operation, and how to create such an environment. We will discuss strategies on how interdisciplinary research between biology and chemistry can be created and promoted in the ITbM, and how to create such an environment, together with successful examples of ITbM and the researchers who are promoting such research. Through the discussion, we would like to discuss with participants tailor-made interdisciplinary research promotion strategies that suit each research and research institute.

We will have a program of discussions among researchers, venture companies, and large corporations from various perspectives, not limited to the themes of this session.
Audience members are invited to attend the conference. Please visit the conference website (see below).

<Speakers

Team Leader, Molecular Bioregulation Research Team, RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Science
Mr. Shinya Hagihara

He led chemical biology research at ITbM from 2013 to 2018, and in 2015, he published a paper in Science on "Yosimulactone Green," a turn-on fluorescent molecule that captures the germination of parasitic plants. ", which captures the germination of parasitic plants. He actively collaborates with biologists on plant-based research, and his research style is characterized by his ability to accurately understand and gain insight into plant function through the eyes of chemistry.

Japan Science and Technology Agency PRESTO Researcher
Project Assistant Professor, Institute for Transformative Biomolecular Research, Nagoya University
Mr. Yosuke Toda
He received his degree in Plant Molecular Genetics and Plant Physiology from Nagoya University. He changed his specialty significantly to bioinformatics, triggered by the development of image analysis techniques for screening compounds that affect stomatal aperture in plants. In order to develop fundamental technologies for plant phenotypic quantification, he has been engaged in cross-disciplinary research at JST PRESTO "Information Cooperative Cultivation" since 2017.

Project Lecturer, Institute for Transformative Biomolecular Research, Nagoya University
Mr. Yusuke Nakane

After receiving his degree from Nagoya University, he worked in drug discovery research in the field of central nervous system diseases at a pharmaceutical company, and since September 2016, he has been working at the Institute for Transformative Biomolecular Research (ITbM) at Nagoya University to elucidate the onset and progression mechanisms of diseases associated with the disruption of the biological clock, as well as to develop chemical screening to identify compounds that regulate the biological clock. The ITbM is also engaged in chemical screening aimed at identifying compounds that regulate the biological clock. He is also involved in the ITbM venture "Craftide" as chief biologist, and is engaged in mid-molecular drug discovery through phenotypic screening of poorly synthesized peptides and proteins, starting with cyclic peptides.

.
Project Associate Professor, Institute for Transformative Biomolecular Research, Nagoya University
Director for Research Promotion, Nagoya University
Ayato Sato
Leading interdisciplinary research between biology and chemistry at ITbM through compound screening. Over the past 6 years, a total of 1.2 million compounds have been distributed to 120 collaborators. Part of the results will be used to start a venture company. At the same time, the Research Promotion Division, which seamlessly collaborates with researchers from the inside of their heads to the social implementation of research results, has been established to create the ultimate fusion research management scheme.
