Within the 9th Annual Conference of the Association of Transdisciplinary Studies, March 6-7, 2020 (Friday and Saturday), hosted by RIVANES, a panel discussion, "Can Environmental and Ecological Conservation Move Forward with Business Methods?" will be held.

 Until now, humankind has relied on the natural environment for all of its resources to form societies. While we realized early on that these resources are not infinite, in an economy-first society, environmental destruction is progressing and biodiversity is being lost. The business world's involvement is currently limited to limited activities such as CSR from a long-term perspective, but is there any way to break out of this situation?
In this session, we will invite two young entrepreneurs, Mr. Yota Takakura of Inoka Inc. and Mr. Yuya Miyazaki of Science Groove Inc. who are challenging business based on the theme of ecosystems, and Mr. Wataru Kitamura of Tokyo City University who is engaged in ecological research focusing on birds, to explore the possibility of advancing environmental and ecosystem conservation through business methods through discussion. Through the discussion, we will explore the possibility of advancing environmental and ecological conservation through business methods.

We will have a program of discussions among researchers, start-ups, and large companies from a variety of perspectives, not limited to the themes of this session.

Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Creation, Faculty of Environment, Tokyo City University

Wataru Kitamura
Associate Professor, Faculty of Environmental Studies, Tokyo City University Born in Chiba, Japan in 1979. Specializes in behavioral ecology, conservation biology, and ornithology. After graduating from the College of Liberal Arts at International Christian University, he studied the behavioral ecology of swallows at the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences of the University of Tokyo, where he received his Ph. He has been a member of the Little Turn Project, a non-profit organization, since 2004, and has been involved in the conservation of the endangered Koan Tern since 2012. In addition, as a representative of Liferbird, he is involved in activities aimed at the dissemination and development of ornithological research.

Yota Takakura
After graduating from the University of Tokyo with a Bachelor of Engineering degree, he conducted research at the University of Tokyo's Rekimoto Lab, which produced Yoichi Ochiai, among others, on supporting the practice of musical instruments using machine learning. While in school, he founded a hardware development company and was involved in various projects, and in April 2019, he established Inoka Inc. Under the management philosophy of "Delivering the value of nature to people," he is engaged in environmental conservation, education, and research in cooperation with large corporations, utilizing his unique "environmental transfer technology" that reproduces ecosystems.


Representative Director, Science Groove Inc.
Yuya Miyazaki
Representative Director and CEO of Science Groove Inc. He has been developing games and web services since his junior high school days and established a software development company while studying at Kyushu University. He specializes in web front-end development, game development, etc. In October 2019, he founded Science Groove Inc. with researchers from Kyushu University and Tokyo Metropolitan University. He is working on developing simulation tools for science education and is currently developing a demonstration experiment using Virtual ECOSYSTEM, an ecosystem simulation.

Shuhei Tsukada
D. in Applied Biotechnology, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo. D. in Agriculture. Participated in the management of RIVERNESS since 2003, when the company was in its early stages of establishment. After accumulating practical experience in experimental classes and various types of writing, developed and introduced advanced technologies in the agri-field and launched a project to build an ecosystem for regional startups.
