2018.10.15

(Head office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yukihiro Maru), a leading company in the field ofSaturday, November 3, 2018Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Okinawa Forum 2018(hosted by RIVANES) will be held at the 50th Anniversary Memorial Hall of the University of the Ryukyus (Researcher Exchange Facility).

The Okinawa Forum of the Association of Hyperdisciplinarity is a forum that focuses on the resources and geographical features that Okinawa possesses, and considers what can be done to transform Okinawa into a "region that can compete with the world" by utilizing the knowledge of researchers, companies, and other organizations. Continuing from last year, the theme of this year's forum will be primary industry.

Okinawa Prefecture is positioned as the gateway to East Asia, with major Asian cities such as Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Manila located within 1500 km (within 4 hours by air) of Naha Airport. From ancient times, Okinawa has traded and relayed trade with Asian countries, playing a role as a bridge to Asia and prospering. Today, Okinawa's geographical advantage is once again attracting attention as Asia's economy develops. Taking advantage of its geographical advantage of being located in the center of East Asia, we aim to establish a sustainable primary industry not only in Okinawa but also in Japan as a whole and in Asia.

Last year's event was held on August 25, 2017, and featured discussions on how the challenges faced by the region's primary industries can be solved by crossing the technologies of academia and businesses. (Last year's program: https://hic.lne.st/forum/ryukyu2017/)

Furthermore, on August 24, the day before the implementation of the program, the participants visited local cacao cultivation sites, herb farmers, shako mussel farms, and livestock producers together with researchers and corporate engineers to discuss technologies to transform the production sites of livestock and aquaculture farms. After the forum, collaborations between shako mussel farmers and researchers and others are beginning to emerge.
