The Tomiya Forum of the Association of Hyperdifferent Fields closed with great success.
Thank you to all participants and collaborators.
Tomiya City in Miyagi Prefecture has been selected as a demonstration city for a low-carbon hydrogen supply chain and is taking on the challenge of creating a new city with hydrogen as one axis. This forum will be held with the aim of discussing the various research elements in city planning and materializing them as the next demonstration test.
Tomiya City is a residential city whose population has been increasing for more than 50 years, and development is underway in anticipation of further population growth. At this conference, discussions will be held on future city planning from the perspectives of mobility, energy, living environment, and community in relation to Tomiya City's continuing development as a residential city. Researchers, venture companies, businesses, and local governments will also participate in the conference, providing an opportunity to begin taking on the challenge of "living 10 to 20 years into the future.Whether you are interested in adding a new angle to your research from the perspective of a different field or exploring partners for demonstration experiments, we invite you to come and present or listen to the presentations.
This forum will be held in Tomiya City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.Future Hydrogen Energy Forum in TomiyaThis event will be held as a part of the "Miyagi Environmental Grant Project" (a project utilizing the Miyagi Environmental Grant for fiscal year 1991). On the following day (December 14)Science Castle 2019 Tohoku Conference, a conference for middle and high school studentsThe first day is for your presentation and the second day is for the training of junior and senior high school students who will lead the next generation. If you would like, please attend both days, the first day for your own presentation and the second day as an opportunity to nurture the next generation of junior and senior high school student researchers.

Project Professor, Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University
Mr. Tatsuoki Kono
Specially Appointed Professor, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo
Visiting Professor, Politecnico di Milano
Prior to assuming his current position, he served as Director of the Water Research Center, Toshiba Asia Pacific, Inc. and General Manager in charge of the Next Generation Energy Business Development Project Team, Toshiba Corporation. At Toshiba, he was engaged in research on hydrogen storage alloys and invented the superlattice alloy used in eneloop rechargeable batteries. Currently, he is also a Project Professor at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo and a Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano. He specializes in hydrogen energy technology (hydrogen production, storage, and utilization).

<Opening Session
Hydrogen Energy in 2030
Demonstration tests for the development of cities and towns using hydrogen are being undertaken throughout Japan. With the need to introduce a mechanism that differs from conventional coal-fueled energy supply, what are the various municipalities doing and what issues are emerging? We will introduce the current status of each player, including a case study in Tomiya City, and discuss what technological development and urban mechanisms are required for true diffusion, based on our experiences.
11:00-12:00
.
A city where people's lives will be transformed by the next generation of mobility and transportation
How will automated and autonomous driving change the movement of people and the transportation of goods? With the advent of aerial drones, it is predicted that an era will soon come in the not-too-distant future when transportation will no longer be limited to automobiles. Especially in a city like Tomiya City, where the main purpose is to live, what will be the impact of the new means of mobility and transportation that will be implemented in society? In this session, we will gather players who are developing the next generation of mobility and transportation to discuss how their efforts can change the city of "living".
14:00-15:00
<Session 2
Transport and storage technologies make hydrogen energy accessible
In the utilization of hydrogen energy, technologies related to "storage" and "transportation" are extremely important: how to efficiently store hydrogen at a low cost, and how to transport hydrogen from the place where it is produced to the place where it is used. Although large companies are taking the lead in this area, venture companies and university researchers are also taking on the challenge of developing these technologies. In this session, venture companies and university researchers who are taking on the challenges of storage and transportation will take the stage and discuss what kind of efforts can be made to implement the technology in society, involving the participants as well.
15:00-16:00
.
Community design based on energy distribution
The risk of power grid disruptions due to natural disasters in recent years and the large transmission losses of large-scale power plants have led to an increased focus on community energy management using natural power. In this session, we will discuss the initiatives to realize new regional electric power generation by renewable energy at the housing complex, town, or city level, and to consume it within the region without waste, from the perspectives of community design, supply chain construction, and regional economy, based on the actual initiatives. The discussion will be based on actual initiatives from the perspectives of community design, supply chain construction, and local economy.
16:00-17:00
.
The next step leading from Tomiya to the rest of Japan begins here.
How can we promote the penetration of technologies to realize cities and urban development that also include hydrogen energy? In this session, we will look back at the players in this forum and their technologies, and discuss what we can do to introduce these technologies into our daily lives in the future, and what we can do as a first step in a small demonstration test.
14:00-16:00
