- The Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in the Philippines (HIC PH) 2024, themed "Beyond Borders: Uniting Perspectives for a Symbiotic Society," seeks to explore this ambitious vision by bringing together thought leaders, innovators, and scholars from a myriad of fields to foster a global dialogue that transcends traditional boundaries, bringing together diverse disciplines to collaboratively address the complex challenges.
Attendees will engage in dynamic panel discussions, presentations, and collaborative sessions, harnessing the collective wisdom from various disciplines to address complex challenges. Dr. Raul V. Destura
- National Institutes of Health Deputy Director for Strategic Initiatives and Emerging Programs
Dr. Raul V. Destura is a highly regarded infectious disease specialist, innovator, and research professor at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), University of the Philippines Manila. Dr. Destura’s academic journey spans a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Santo Tomas, a medical degree from De La Salle University, and advanced studies in infectious diseases, including fellowships at the University of Virginia. As CEO of Manila HealthTek, Inc., he pioneered accessible health technologies, notably the Biotek-M™ Dengue Aqua Kit and the COVID-19 GenAmplify RT-PCR Kit. His commitment to translational research focuses on bridging scientific innovation with community health needs. He has earned numerous awards, including the 2024 AROHRA Award for Biomedical Research and was named one of Asia's Most Influential in Healthcare by Tatler Asia. -
Pio Justin V. Asuncion
- Department of Health Chief Health Program Officer, Health Research Division
Mr. Pio Justin V. Asuncion is the Chief Health Program Officer at the Health Research Division of the Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines, overseeing research management processes, including ethics and agenda setting. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Far Eastern University Manila (2012), a Master of Public Health from the University of the Philippines – Manila (2015), and a Master of Health Research Ethics from the University of Malaya, graduating with distinction in 2020. In addition to his DOH role, he lectures at Far Eastern University and supervises a joint research ethics program with the University of Malaya and Johns Hopkins University. A Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health in the UK, he focuses on health research ethics and policy. Mr. Asuncion is the principal investigator for multi-country studies on health policy and pandemic ethics and is actively involved with various health research ethics boards in the Philippines. -
Dr. Zypher Jude G. Regencia

Dr. Zypher Jude G. Regencia is a clinical epidemiology researcher with a PhD in Health Sciences (Epidemiology) from the University of the Philippines Manila (2024). His dissertation examined the impact of body image perception and skin lightening practices on the mental health of Filipino adults using a mixed-methods approach. Skilled in advanced statistical techniques and tools like R and STATA, he has contributed to significant public health initiatives, including HIV self-testing guidelines. His research, published in reputable journals, integrates quantitative and qualitative methods, earning him recognition as one of the "Most Outstanding Authors" by the Journal of Public Health and Emergency in 2024. Dr. Regencia also trains others in statistical and qualitative methodologies, facilitating accessible public health insights. -
Dr. Concepcion Ponce

Dr. Concepcion Ponce received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Saskatchewan. She was one of the Leaders in Innovation Fellow 2020 by Royal Academy of Eng’g, London, UK, DOST, and Asian Institute of Management, and was also was recognized as in University Innovation Fellow in 2023 by the UP System. She is currently also the CEO of CirPro (Circular Process) Innovations Corp., a spinoff from the University of the Philippines Visayas which specializes in turning waste fruit peel into products that can be used in different industries. -
Eunice Gianan
- National Museum of the Philippines Museum Researcher II
Eunice Lois D. Gianan is a Museum Researcher II at the Botany and National Herbarium Division of the National Museum of the Philippines (BNHD-NMP) and a Marine Science Institute, UP Diliman (UP-MSI) graduate student. Her research focuses on mangrove ecosystems; biological and ecological aspects, particularly in mangrove growth and distribution, using an individual-based modeling approach and carbon sequestration assessment. Since 2018, she has been an active facilitator and resource person for the DOST-SEI Climate Science Youth Camp, providing hands-on training to high school students on mangrove identification and vegetation assessment. -
Eleanor M. Olegario

Eleanor M. Olegario, is the CEO and Founder of LITHOS Manufacturing, OPC, a pioneering company specializing in mineral products enhanced with clay She is also a senior lecturer and mentor in mineral clay nanotechnology at senior lecturer and mentor in mineral clay nanotechnology at prestigious institutions such as UP Diliman, UST, Ateneo, De La Salle, Mapua, Adamson, and TIP, she earned her MS in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of the Philippines and is currently pursuing her Ph. -
Rachelle C. Mendoza, RCh, MSc
- DOST - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development Tuklas Lunas Program Head
Ms. Rachelle C. Mendoza is the current Program Head of the Tuklas Lunas®, or the drug discovery and development program of the Department of Science and Technology—Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD). She is a registered chemist with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Chemistry from the Batangas State University and University of Santo Tomas, respectively. Prior to her current position in PCHRD, she worked as a laboratory analyst at the Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. She also served as a chemistry instructor at Far Eastern University and Batangas State University. -
Dr. Renzo Ong Alvarez, Jr. NMD, CAM
- KMOHP Alternative Medicine and Wellness Center Regional Manager
Dr. Renzo Ong Alvarez Jr. is a Naturopathic Medicine Doctor and Specialist in Alternative and Complementary Medicine. He sees patients at KMOHP ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE & WELLNESS CENTER in Alabang, Laguna, and Bulacan. He is the Regional Director of KMOHP. He is part of the community promoting health and well-being by using Alternative Medicine Practices, which he does through speaking engagements on various Local Government Awareness Month. He got his Doctor of Science in Alternative and Complementary Medicine at the University of Makati in 2014 and continued to specialize in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Alternative therapies at Chinese Traditional Medical Institute of Hong Kong. He also continued his specialization at IBMS-IMSIM College of Integrative Medicine and Got his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (NMD) in 2018. He was awarded as Consistent Top Global Awardee in Alternative and Complementary Medicine for 8 consecutive years (2016-2023) and developing leaders in holistic medicine from IPHM in 2018. Currently, Dr. Alvarez holds certification from International Practitioner of Holistic Medicine (-IPHM)
