ABOUT
What is the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference?
It is a place where researchers, large corporations, small factories, and venture companies, regardless of their field or industry, can fuse their knowledge and technology through discussion, identify new research themes and issues that humanity needs to face, and promote research together.

Research that creates something new from nothing is, to begin with, "fun. However, all we hear from the research community in Japan today are gloomy stories. Perhaps the current way of conducting research, including budgets, postings, priority themes, evaluation systems, and researcher training, is no longer functioning well in the changing times. On the other hand, Southeast Asian countries have developed, and local researchers have become equal research partners, both academic and civilian. The field of research is expanding not only to Japan, Europe, the U.S., and China, but also to Southeast Asia. Now that the global situation has changed, let us return to our roots as researchers and start a discussion on the reconstruction of the research ecosystem, including academia, corporate research institutes, and even bridging the research results to society.

    D. in International Development Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology. D. in Engineering. From engineering to physiological psychology, he does not hesitate to dive into any field that interests him. As a student, he conducted manufacturing projects both inside and outside of Japan. During his doctoral years, he conducted research on measuring human emotions using wearable terminals. In his hometown of Kagawa Prefecture, he established the Kagawa Tech Planter and the Society of Transdisciplinary Studies, and is currently struggling to create a project that will change the world from the local community.

    PlacemakingX Japan Leader

    Rui Izumiyama (泉山塁威) is an urban tactician and placemaker born in 1984 in Sapporo, Japan. As an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture, College of Science and Technology, Nihon University, he has been conducting innovative research and practice in the field of urban planning and urban design. He holds a doctorate in engineering and is a certified associate urban planner.
    As co-chairman of Sotonova Incorporated Association and Area Management Labo Incorporated Association, he is involved in practice, public awareness and human resource development, and internationally, he is also the Japanese leader of PlacemakingX. He specializes in urban management, area management, public space utilization, tactical urbanism, placemaking, and walkable cities.
    He has published 13 urban books under the motto "Rich Places Create the Future of Areas and Cities. He continues to take on the challenge of sustainable urban renewal with his unique approach that combines theory and practice, including his recent book, "Dictionary of Public Space Utilization.

    Born in Saga Prefecture, he joined Natural Power Company in 2015. After working on wind power business projects, he has been in charge of business planning for farm-based solar power and resilience enhancement since last year, as well as the operation of "Green Business Producers," a community leadership development project. His goal is to implement a new capital circulation system that reinvests in the blue earth and the next generation, rather than a one-off profitable business.

Currently, he is engaged in education and research on the health functions of agricultural and marine products from Fukui Prefecture at the Faculty of Bioresources, Fukui Prefectural University. He established the International Taurine Research Association in 2014 and promotes taurine research in collaboration with domestic researchers.

He is a researcher and manager involved in launching joint research projects with universities and research institutions and supporting the establishment of research institutes while conducting research and development. He has also been involved in the establishment of many venture companies and serves as an advisor.

    He joined the Company as an advisor in March 2018 and was appointed President and Representative Director in April 2018 and Chairman of the Board in 2024.
    He has given many classes, seminars, and workshops related to venture business and open innovation at universities, graduate schools, and companies, and has trained future generations of venture business professionals.
    Graduated from the School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University. He is a visiting professor at Chuo University Business School and an outside director (independent director) of Synspective Inc.

    Graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University in 1992, completed the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University in 1994, and the Graduate School of Medicine, Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1998, where he received his Ph. After working as a post-doctoral fellow, he became an assistant at the Institute of Biomaterials and Bioengineering, Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1999. After working for domestic and international venture companies, he became a lecturer at Teikyo University in 2012, an associate professor in 2018, and a professor in 2021 (current position).
    He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Japan Society for Biomedical Engineering, the Board of Directors of the Japan Society for Digital Game Engineering, and a member of the IEEE and the Japan Society of Nursing Science and Technology.
    He specializes in biomedical measurements (especially physiological measurements), biological signal processing and game science.

    After obtaining a doctorate (engineering), he joined a consumer goods manufacturer as a new graduate and worked in the R&D and business divisions. In 2022, he was transferred to his current position, and from 2024, he has been the General Manager of the R&D Division. He has gained experience in product design and development of general merchandise and medical devices, as well as in human efficacy testing and physiological psychological research in collaboration with external research institutions. Currently, he is engaged in activities to explore the seeds of wellness values and technologies utilizing fragrance and heat.

    D. in Engineering from Kyoto University in 1973. After working as an assistant and associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University, he moved to Carnegie Mellon University in 1980. He has served as Director of the Robotics Institute.
    As a computer vision and intelligent robotics researcher, he is particularly proud of his achievements, including the development of the world's first computerized human face image recognition and face detection technology, the invention of the Lucas-Kanade algorithm used in most video processing today, and the development of multi-camera imaging technology used today, such as the "eye vision" technology used in the 35th Super Bowl, in which more than 30 robot cameras captured a 360-degree view of the field of vision. He is also known for the invention of an algorithm called the Lucas-Kanade method, which is used in most video processing today, and for the development of many technologies used in everyday life today, including the multi-camera imaging technology represented by "Eye Vision," which used more than 30 robot cameras to capture a 360-degree field of view at the 35th Super Bowl.
    He has received the Kyoto Prize, the Franklin Foundation Medal Bauer Award, the IEEE Founder's Medal, the Allen Newell Award from the American Society for Intelligence, the Armenian National Award Global IT Award, and the Tateishi Special Award.
    He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Engineering, a Person of Cultural Merit, and a member of the Japan Academy.

    He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University in 1997, received his master's degree from the same university in 1999, and his doctorate in 2002. After working as an academic researcher at the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyushu University, and as a lecturer at the Center for Regulation of Biological Environment, Kyushu University, he joined the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyushu University as an assistant professor in 2005 (reassigned as an assistant professor in 2007), an associate professor in 2013 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Iwate University, a professor in 2020 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Iwate University, and a professor from 2023. He has been a professor at the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyushu University since 2013. He is engaged in research on soft ground and river sediment distributed in low-lying coastal areas, which is useful for conservation, maintenance, and management of agricultural production infrastructure, as well as improvement of ground improvement technology and deformation prediction technology.

    D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Tokyo. After working as an Invited Research Fellow at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), a JST-PRESTO Researcher at Kyoto University, and a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, Setsunan University, he has been in his current position since April, 2023. He is engaged in research to analyze the form and properties of space structures launched by rockets and functioning in orbit and on planets, and to propose new and interesting structures. His main research themes include the proposal of modular and inflatable structures, the application of natural forms such as marine plankton and insect hatching to space structures, and research on morphing wings that can autonomously change their shape.

Poster presentation on "Cosmic Rays Arrival Frequency and Solar Activity" at the Osaka Conference of the Society for Hyperdifferent Fields 2022, supported by the Osaka University SEEDS program and the Accelerator Kitchen from the youngest eighth grader in history, still working on cosmic ray and particle measurements. He has received multiple awards for his published work on radiation imaging using scintillators, and in 2024, he was the first Japanese to be selected for Beamline for Schools, a high school accelerator experiment proposal competition by the international accelerator facility CERN-DESY, for "Sakura Particles. He is scheduled to conduct a two-week experiment in Geneva, Switzerland, in September as a member of "Sakura Particles.

    In 2013, he joined the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. In 2013, he joined the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), where he was in charge of revising the renewable energy FIT system, supporting overseas expansion through investment in the public-private fund "Cool Japan Organization", launching the "Town Personnel Department" policy to support local employment of young and mid-career workers, and various benefit programs to support business continuity for Corona disaster in SMEs, etc. From 2022 he was transferred to the Ishikawa prefectural government as Director of Industrial Policy Division. In response to the Noto Peninsula earthquake in January of this year, he assumed the newly established position of Director of the Creative Reconstruction Promotion Division in April. He has been involved in the formulation and promotion of the prefecture's Creative Reconstruction Plan and the establishment of an intermediary support organization to support local activities. He also serves as a policy advisor to the town of Kyotamba in Kyoto Prefecture. He holds a Master's degree in Regional Economics from Cornell University, USA.

Japanese Settlements and Resilience in the Wake of Noto's Infrastructure Destruction

The Rivanes Resilience Project, launched in the wake of the Noto Peninsula earthquake on New Year's Day, aims to build a resilient social system using deep tech. In this session, Mr. Sato, who is leading the recovery and reconstruction efforts at the Ishikawa Prefectural Government, Mr. Hayashi, who has decided to introduce cutting-edge technology to his own land in a marginalized community in Ishikawa, and Mr. Ide, who has been running a business since before the earthquake to shift to natural energy, will discuss how to live 10 years from now by utilizing deep tech. In many places, "parklets," spaces for pedestrians created on sidewalks and road shoulders, have been created to shift urban areas from being "car-centered" to "people-centered," and to create places for diverse people to gather and interact. However, while social experiments have been conducted, there are few examples in Japan of permanent use of such spaces. In this session, we will focus on the impact of space on people, and discuss with experts in placemaking and wellbeing. We will pursue the value of space for people and how our behavior and mind can be changed by spatial design and operation. session release
