Since this biogas contains high levels of methane gas, it is attracting attention as a carbon-neutral energy source. Currently, the business of burning this biogas in generators and selling the electricity is being conducted, but it is dependent on government subsidies. Therefore, there is a need to find a way to use biogas for purposes other than power generation, i.e., to convert it into useful chemical substances. In July 2020, the company succeeded in producing methanol and formic acid from biogas, and is now further developing the technology for its social implementation.
