Food Regulatory Science - The Challenge of Food and Fasting Science<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n

A panel discussion, \"Food Regulatory Science - The Challenge of Science of Food and Fasting\" (session partner: Kyowa Hakko Bio Co., Ltd.), will be held within the 10th Annual Conference of the Society for Transdisciplinary Research, hosted by RIVANES (March 5-6, 2021 (Friday and Saturday)).<\/p>\n

There are many different ways in which people interact with food, depending on country, region, culture, and lifestyle. Some people believe in controlling their health by eating, while others believe in regulating themselves through fasting. There are also dietary restrictions closely related to religion, such as Ramadan. In this session, we will discuss how food contributes to our health in the context of the latest science, especially in terms of immunity, gut bacteria, and high quality food resources, with the concept of understanding humans through food. We will also discuss what research needs to be done to accumulate more knowledge on how to control the timing and quantity of the food we do and do not consume in the first place.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We will have a program of discussions among researchers, start-ups, and large companies from a variety of perspectives, not limited to the themes of this session.

In 1996, he received a Master's degree from the Graduate School of Agriculture, Nagoya University. In the same year, he joined Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co., Ltd. and received his Ph.D. in Agriculture in 2005 (University of Tokyo). 2008 Kyowa Hakko Bio Co., Ltd. and has been consistently engaged in R&D work since joining the company in 1996, and after serving as the General Manager of the Research Laboratory, he assumed his current position in April 2018. Specializing in material production through fermentation (bioprocesses), he received the Agricultural Chemistry Technology Award in 2014 and is currently engaged in the development of new businesses.<\/p>\n

D. in Agricultural Chemistry, Graduate School of Agricultural Science, The University of Tokyo. He was an assistant professor at the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, a visiting researcher at the School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, an associate professor at the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tokyo, and an associate professor at the Department of Applied Animal Science, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the same university before assuming his current position from 2019. He also served as an academic investigator at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Research Promotion Bureau for three years from 2001 to 2003. Currently, he is working on elucidating the signal regulation mechanism of insulin-like growth factors and identifying metabolic regulatory amino acid signals. At the same time, he established the One Earth Guardians training program in the Faculty of Agriculture to consider what should be done now in order for humans to survive on Earth 100 years from now.<\/p>\n

D., he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the UCSD School of Medicine, a researcher at RIKEN, and a specially appointed professor at the Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo before assuming his current position in 2014. From the perspective of microbe-host interactions, he is attempting to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of \"disease starts in the gut. In addition, he is currently conducting research on the fasting response of the intestinal immune system.<\/p>\n

After completing the doctoral program, he worked as an assistant professor and lecturer at the Faculty of Science, Kitasato University, and as an assistant professor at the Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University before becoming a specially-appointed associate professor at the Institute for Advanced Biosciences, Keio University in 2015 and a professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kumamoto University in 2018. While conducting research and development, he is a researcher involved in launching joint research projects with universities and research institutions and supporting the establishment of research institutes.<\/p>\n
