The Osaka Forum of the Association of Hyperdifferent Fields was a great success with 195 participants. <\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n

On Saturday, October 13, 2018, the Osaka Forum 2018 of the Association of Hyperdifferent Fields (hosted by Rivanes) was held at the Art Hotel Osaka Bay Tower. 195 people from researchers, venture companies, large corporations, town factories, and even high school students gathered in Osaka. A total of 7 sessions, 24 posters, and 20 booths for ventures and town factories were gathered, and the event was a great success. The theme of this year's Osaka Forum was \"Redefining Health,\" and participants from a wide variety of fields engaged in heated discussions. Advances in technology have made it easier to obtain data that is expected to help maintain and improve health, such as heart rate variability, daily step count, and even genome information. With this, we are approaching an era in which we can take a qualitatively different approach than in the past. Osaka, which has long been a center of economic and commercial prosperity, food culture, and entertainment, is now home to many cutting-edge research centers related to health and medicine, as well as a large number of health-tech-related companies. This forum used Osaka as a stage for discussions on a wide range of topics, from food, agriculture, medicine, IoT, manufacturing, and behavior change, to redefine what health means in the coming era. Next year's Osaka Forum of the Association for Transdisciplinary Studies is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2019. We also look forward to welcoming you to the main meeting of the Society for Hyperdifferential Studies in Tokyo on March 8 and 9, 2019.<\/p>\n

Session A1 The Future of Your Body Predicted by Accumulation and Integration<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cohort surveys, genetic testing of individuals, lifelogging, and other methods are dramatically advancing the accumulation of information that can be used to learn about an individual's constitution and condition and to maintain and improve health. This year's event brought together researchers working on algorithms for prediction, venture companies using sensors to collect and utilize information, and representatives from companies that are setting up major businesses in healthcare. Rather than focusing solely on cutting-edge technology, the participants discussed a wide range of topics, including how to predict the state of the body based on various types of data, how to make use of the information obtained, and the platforms needed to achieve this.<\/p>\n

Food supports human health. While technological innovation is progressing in the field of research on agriculture, which supports food, there is a need for technological demonstration in the agricultural field. The Kansai region is home to a concentration of medical research centers, including Osaka Prefecture, where the National Institute of Health and Nutrition will relocate in 2019, and Kobe City, where RIKEN has its Research Center for Frontier Biosciences. Ventures that aim to implement the results of their medical and healthcare research into society presented their vision of the world they would like to realize. In addition, \"Osaka Techno Masters\" are technicians who have been certified by Osaka City as having outstanding skills in manufacturing. Edgy ventures and technicians shared their thoughts and technologies.<\/p>\n

Nutrition, exercise, and sleep are not independent of each other, but are intricately intertwined, and health can be compromised when any one of them is disrupted. In this session, the latest topics were presented by leading researchers in the fields of nutrition and sleep.<\/p>\n

Session A3 How to Achieve Health Promotion for 10 Million People<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cohort studies of several thousand elderly people in local communities have already shown that the accumulation of health data and appropriate diet, exercise, and other interventions can reduce medical and nursing care costs. On the other hand, in order to realize health promotion on a scale of tens of thousands to 10 million people, including the younger generation, it will be necessary to design and deploy mechanisms that differ from research, such as awareness building and dietary intervention within organizational activities such as companies, and individual motivational mechanisms using smart phones and other devices as hooks. This session will focus on the following topics. In this session, we discussed ways to develop health behavior creation into organizational activities based on proven intervention methods, technologies for behavior change, and the use of health checkup data.<\/p>\n

Session B3 New Relationships between Universities and Town Factories Created by Garages<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Garage Minato and Garage Taisho were born in April 2018 as a base for connecting town factories and researchers to create new things. Since their opening, a variety of people from researchers, local factories, companies, and local governments have visited the sites, and unprecedented collaboration is about to be born. In this session, we discussed the roles and functions required of \"garages\" in the future from the perspectives of both universities and local factories.<\/p>\n

Closing Session What is the future of health?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The discussion focused on how the concept of \"health\" will change in the future, and how approaches to health prediction, maintenance, and promotion are likely to change in the future when the concept of \"health\" changes. It was also discussed whether the concept of \"health\" in the future should be expanded to include not only physical aspects but also social and spiritual aspects such as \"well-being\" and \"happiness.<\/p>\n
