The symposium \"The 1st Cellular Agriculture Conference - Pure Cultured Meat from Regenerative Medicine to Space Agriculture\" will be held within the 7th Main Conference of the Association of Hyperdifferent Fields (March 2 and 3, 2018 @ TEPIA Advanced Technology Pavilion), hosted by Liverness, Inc.<\/p>\n

Cellular agriculture is the production of agricultural, livestock, and marine products through cell culture. A typical example is \"clean meat\" (cultured meat), which is produced by culturing muscle cells using regenerative medicine technology, and is expected to be a decisive factor in solving the world's food problems.<\/p>\n

Conferences on cellular agriculture have been held in the Netherlands, Israel, and the U.S., but this will be the first meeting to be held in the East Asian region.<\/p>\n

This session welcomes Erin Kim of \"New Harvest,\" a non-profit organization known for having pioneered the concept of cellular agriculture, from the United States, and Professor Tatsuya Shimizu, Director of TWIns at Tokyo Women's Medical University and a leader in regenerative medicine from Japan, Professor Tatsuya Shimizu, Director of TWIns at Tokyo Women's Medical University, a leader in regenerative medicine, and Professor Yayoi Obata, who has received numerous awards for her life science applications in agriculture at Tokyo University of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

\nProfessor and Director, Institute for Advanced Biomedical Sciences, Tokyo Women's Medical University<\/p>\n

Born in 1968, he graduated from the University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and worked as a cardiologist at Saiseikai Central Hospital and JR Tokyo General Hospital. In 1999, he started regenerative medicine research using cell sheet technology at the Institute for Advanced Biomedical Sciences, Tokyo Women's Medical University, and succeeded in creating three-dimensional myocardial tissue that beats at the level of the naked eye. In addition to the application of 3D tissue construction technology to regenerative medicine and drug discovery models, he aims to expand the technology to cell agriculture.<\/p>\n

\nProfessor, Department of Bioscience, Faculty of Life Science, Tokyo University of Agriculture<\/p>\n

D. degree in Animal Science from Tokyo University of Agriculture in March 1999. From his student days to the present, he has been engaged in research on oogenesis in mammals; in 2016, he developed a culture system to produce mature oocytes from germ cells of mouse fetuses, creating a new platform for reproductive engineering technology. The goal is to elucidate the mechanism of oocyte formation, which is the root of life, and to develop technologies that enable the use of oocytes.<\/p>\n

      What is the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference?<\/h2>\n

      Since 2002, when RIVERNESS was founded, we have held an annual \"Super Hetero-Disciplinary Exchange Meeting\" where students and researchers participating in internship programs at RIVERNESS discuss their thoughts on their research and issues they wish to solve through their research. Since 2012, the conference has evolved into a \"super interdisciplinary conference\" with the participation of researchers from industry and academia, where discussions are held from a broader perspective.<\/p>\n
